Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round baking pan with butter.

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Beat in the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until combined. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. When the cake is completely cooled, cut it into 4 equal pieces.

Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, beat the heavy cream and confectioners' sugar until stiff peaks form. Melt the chocolate chips and butter in a double boiler or microwave. Add the corn syrup and cream and stir until combined. Pour the chocolate sauce into a large bowl and set aside.

To assemble, place one layer of the cake on a plate. Top with a layer of the whipped cream, then drizzle with some of the chocolate sauce. Place the second layer of cake on top and repeat the process. Place the third layer of cake on top and top with the remaining whipped cream, then drizzle with the remaining chocolate sauce. Finally, place the fourth layer of cake on top.

Allow the cake to chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving. Enjoy!
