Ingredients

For this delicious chocolate orange drip cake recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 300g Dark Chocolate
  • 100g Unsalted Butter
  • 200ml Double Cream
  • 2 Medium Oranges
  • 3 Large Eggs
  • 250g Caster Sugar
  • 250g Plain Flour
  • 2 Teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • A Pinch of Salt

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 180°C/160°C fan/gas mark 4. Grease and line two 20cm round cake tins with baking parchment. Grate the zest of one of the oranges and set aside.

Step 2: Cream together the butter and the caster sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well in between each addition and adding a spoonful of the flour if the mixture starts to curdle. Finally, add the vanilla extract and the orange zest.

Step 3: Sift the remaining flour, baking powder and salt into the mixture. Fold everything together until combined, then divide the mixture between the two tins and spread it out evenly. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.

Step 4: Allow the cakes to cool for 10 minutes before turning them out onto a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, make the chocolate orange ganache by breaking the chocolate into small pieces and melting it in a bowl with the double cream over a pan of simmering water.

Step 5: Peel and segment the remaining orange. Place one of the cooled cakes onto a serving plate or cake stand and spread over the ganache. Top with the orange segments, then place the other cake on top. Spread the remaining ganache over the top and sides of the cake.

Step 6: Finally, melt the remaining chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water. Allow to cool slightly before drizzling it over the cake. Allow the chocolate to set before serving.
