Ingredients

For the cake you will need the following ingredients: 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 cups of granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 cup of cocoa powder, 2 large eggs, 1 cup of buttermilk, 1/2 cup of vegetable oil, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 cup of freshly brewed hot coffee.

Instructions

First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder. In a separate bowl, beat together the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Finally, stir in the hot coffee until thoroughly combined. Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and pour the batter into the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool for about 10 minutes before inverting them onto a wire cooling rack.

Frosting

To make the frosting, you will need 6 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1/2 cup of butter, 1/2 cup of heavy cream, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 2 cups of powdered sugar. Place the chocolate chips, butter, and heavy cream in a saucepan and melt over low heat, stirring often. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and powdered sugar until smooth. Allow the frosting to cool for about 10 minutes before spreading it onto the cooled cake layers.

Assembly

Once the cake layers and frosting have cooled, place one layer of the cake onto a cake plate or stand. Spread a layer of frosting over the top of the cake. Place the second layer of cake on top and cover the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting. Serve and enjoy!
